Can any Houston Oppos help store an MG?

My good friend and fellow Oppo-head Matt lives in New York but has decided to buy a classic MGB in rust-free Texas. We found a great car for sale in Houston but will not be able to fly down and retrieve it until mid-May! Any chance any Houston Oppos have a backyard, carport, driveway, or garage they’d rent out to us to store it between now and then?

Can’t you have it shipped over?

Anyway, at least you have enough time to find a rustproofing place like Krown or Corrosion Free

Shipping it is probably cheaper than storing it - truck shipping is only about $900 coast-to-coast, so Texas to NY is likely quite a bit cheaper, especially for a small car like that.

Agreed, though soft top convertibles cost more to ship as they have to be on the top of the carrier.

Super long distance is generally just guys with a diesel Ram and a 3-4 car trailer - they don’t care. But yes, some haulers do charge more to top load, but it’s not a huge difference (usually 10-20%).

Y es but we WANT to drive it and have a giant cross-country MGB road trip

We WANT to drive it cross country. A giant classic car road trip is half the appeal of buying it!

This is a terrible but likely entertaining plan. Lots of MGBs around, I’d probably just wait until springtime, the car may not sell before then anyways, if it does, there will be more.

Since you want to roll the dice by driving ac ross you should just roll the dice on a car when you’re ready to go.

I would just feel very uneasy and uncomfortable booking time off work, paying money for a ONE WAY plane ticket with no car bought or confirmed.

True but buying a MGB sight unseen is probably not a great plan either.   If he’s flying out to look it over a lot of self-storage places will have garages for a car that small for $100 or so a month.

We’ll be using a mobile mechanic service to have the car inspected beforehand. And a mechanic will know better than him or I if a car is worth buying.

Good plan, they will probably have a line on storage places too.
